TCF

FRENCH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TEST (TCF)

Developed by France Éducation international, the TCF aims at assessing the French-language proficiency at any one time of any non-French-speaking candidate who needs to know and certify her/his command of French for personal or occupational motives. The test results will be mapped to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). The results to the TCF are valid for 2 years.

Who?

The TCF ANF is dedicated to anyone of foreign origin with no prerequisite, being over 16 and having to justify French-language proficiency to gain the French citizenship by marriage or naturalisation. Please note the minimum level required to gain the French citizenship is B1 in reception and production (oral and written) skills.

What?

This test includes 4 sections:

  • Listening comprehension – 25 minutes
  • Written comprehension – 45 minutes
  • Written expression – 30 minutes
  • Spoken expression – 10 minutes

Assessed levels: from A1 to C2.

Who?

The TCF CRF is dedicated to anyone of foreign origin, over 16 and under 65, requesting a long-term (10 years) resident card or an E.U. long-term resident card. Please note the minimum level required to gain the resident card is A2 in reception and production (oral and written) skills.

What?

This test includes 4 sections:

  • Listening comprehension – 15 minutes
  • Written comprehension – 20 minutes
  • Written expression – 30 minutes
  • Spoken expression – 10 minutes

Assessed levels: from A1 to B1.

Who?

The TCF Tout Public is dedicated to anyone who needs to know her/his command of the French language for personal or occupational reasons. Anyone over 16, with no prerequisite, can take the TCF Tout Public.

What?

This test includes 3 mandatory sections:

  • Listening comprehension – 25 minutes
  • Linguistic competences – 15 minutes
  • Written comprehension – 45 minutes

2 optional sections*:

  • Written production – 60 minutes
  • Spoken expression – 12 minutes
    ⃰ Please note: registering for the 2 optional sections is exclusively possible for the candidates taking the 3 mandatory sections.

Assessed levels: from A1 to C2.

Mandatory sections: 90€

Optional sections:

  • Written production: 45€
  • Spoken expression: 45€
